Jens Johanson, in his role as a senior security strategist at the Swedish Transport Administration, serves as the agency’s contact person for space-related matters and is a member of the Government Offices’ working group for implementing the national strategy for defense and security in space (AG RYFS). Additionally, Jens primarily manages the issue of the antagonistic threat scenario and has produced the report ”Open Antagonistic Threat Scenario Against the Transport Sector.” He is also involved in the Swedish Transport Administration’s handling of Sweden’s NATO membership. With a broad background in protective security , civil preparedness, and total defence, Jens strives to raise awareness about, among other things, the transport sector’s dependencies on the space domain, akin to how awareness of the significance of protective security has increased exponentially in recent years.

The Swedish Transport Administration has a historical involvement in the space domain through YMIR-1, which aims to improve navigation within maritime shipping. When space services have been discussed within the transport sector, the focus has often been on specific modes of transport. In 2022, the Swedish Transport Administration became the sector-responsible preparedness agency for the transport sector. This raises several questions, for example, whether space transportation should be included in the transport sector and how we can view the space domain from a cross-sectoral perspective. Does the transport sector have a clear understanding of its dependencies on space services today or in the future? Many questions, few answers, but every journey begins with a single step.
